#7 English Song

Taylor Swift - Love Story

Writer: Swift

We were both young when I first saw you
I close my eyes
And the flashback starts
I'm standing there
On a balcony in summer air

See the lights
See the party, the ball gowns
I see you make your way through the crowd
And say ''hello'', little did I know

That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles
And my daddy said stay away from Juliet
And I was crying on the staircase
Begging you please don't go, and I said

''Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting all there Is left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story baby just say yes''

So I sneak out to the garden to see you
We keep quiet 'cause we're dead if they knew
So close your eyes
Escape this town for a little while

'Cause you were Romeo, I was a scarlet letter
And my daddy said stay away from Juliet
But you were everything to me
I was begging you please don't go and I said

''Romeo take me somewhere we can be alone
I'll be waiting all there's left to do is run
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story baby just say yes''

''Romeo save me, they try to tell me how to feel
This love is difficult, but it's real
Don't be afraid, we'll make it out of this mess
It's a love story baby just say yes''
Oh oh

I got tired of waiting
Wondering if you were ever coming around
My faith in you was fading
When I met you on the outskirts of town, and I said

''Romeo save me I've been feeling so alone
I keep waiting for you but you never come
Is this in my head? I don't know what to think
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring''

And said, ''marry me Juliet
You'll never have to be alone
I love you and that's all I really know
I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress''
It's a love story baby just say... yes

Oh, oh, oh, oh
'Cause we were both young when I first saw you,

Songfact─
Like most of Swift's song, this was based on a real experience. As a teenager, she had an argument with her parents over a boy - they thought he was a creep, and Taylor thought it was love. She told 60 Minutes that he was, indeed, a creep, but she thought he was amazing at the time. The pre-chorus of the song came into her head: "You were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles, and my daddy said, 'stay away from Juliet." She grabbed her guitar and worked out the chords on her bedroom floor.

She added that the song was met with indifference from her record company and her parents, but she fought for it, which she says was a fun experience because she had something to prove.

My comment─
I seldom listen English songs, but Love Story really makes me impressed. This song is awesome, because it's melody is so beautiful. The following paragraph I prefer:

That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles
And my daddy said stay away from Juliet
And I was crying on the staircase
Begging you please don't go, and I said

it symbolizes a father's authority. The father doesn't allow they to fall in love due to a father's love, so he must confirm whether the man really love his daughter.

#6 Steve Jobs' Talk

Everyone can't predict what will happen in the future, to do what you want to do without hesitation. The reason why we should follow our minds is that our time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Then, just believe what we do and love them, they will be connected in our future.
When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Don't be defeated by frustrations, overcome them and we will be stronger.

#5 Writing Excercise

How do I like ESL Randall's Cyber Listening Lab as a language learning resource?

As English becomes the most common language all over the world, there are more and more English-learning websites. ESL Randall's Cyber Listening Lab is a well-known website to improve people's listening. So far, I learn English for exams, so I can't chat with foreigners smoothly. The website contains a large number of colloquial English. The exercises of the website include conversations or radio commercials. If I can't understand the conversations or the radio commercials, there are quiz scripts I can confirm what I listening. According to above reasons, ESL Randall's Cyber Listening Lab is very helpful to me.
